The Interesting Tidbits That Make Me…. Me.

 I wear high heels on most occasions to boost my confidence (while killing my feet slowly but surely)

 What’s ironic about this fact is that, up until I began working, I absolutely hated getting dolled up and putting on heels. I will say that it’s totally grown on me – I feel a sense of empowerment every morning when I slip off my flip flops and strap on in to my heels. I think I’ll eventually have reasons to wear flats again, like for example when I become a mom. Then, my friends, if you have time to even LOCATE your god damn shoes, that’ll be an accomplishment. For now, I’ll relish in my high heel fetish and hope that my days of looking around frantically for my Keds are far, far away. 

 

I love to steal oversized college hoodies from men

Ok so, I’m hoping no one is offended by this tidbit, In case you’re wondering, no, I do not USUALLY partake in stealing — this I promise you. I will, however, cop to the fact that if a sweatshirt (let’s give a for instance here) is left at a cross country race, I wouldn’t be against picking it up and throwing it on. There’s something so warm and comforting about oversized sweatshirts — I take many of my brother’s too – he’s 6’3 which only INTENSIFIES the spacious coziness I feel when putting his hoodies on in particular. It’s also fun, may I point out, to throw on a hoodie, while dashing out in a rush, of someone who you most definitely do NOT communicate with anymore — brings back memories and a chuckle of revenge — that to me, is a big ass perk.

 

         While I pretend to dislike wedding nonsense and do often roll my eyes, I clearly daydream about it — more often than not

 In the fall, I opened up to everyone about my deep down realization that, I too, long to have a dream wedding…. a nice rock wouldn’t hurt either but hey, beggars can’t be choosers. Not like I’m saying I’m a beggar or anything…. ok, nevermind. Anyway, I have seen way too many people I grew up with married and with baby by the age of 23. Good for them, but I don’t see myself in that mindframe JUST yet. I do, however, dream up amazing wedding destinations and may gaze slash drool at the beautiful dresses in the annual New York Mag’s Wedding Edition … can you really blame me?

 

I am obsessed with breakfast and would choose it over lunch and dinner, undoubtedly

Don’t get me wrong, I very much so enjoy my over-the-top, elongated dinners every night but breakfast to me is just the best meal of the day. My brother for some odd reason HATES breakfast entirely — he usually sleeps through the event and wakes up in time for lunch (his personal favorite meal of the day) – rough life he lives, I know. I think you really can’t NOT like the meal … If you’re into sweets there are an array of options to satisfy, such as pancakes, french toasts, cereals,  fruit parfaits and Belgian waffles. If you like something more hearty and savory, go for omelettes, bacon or grits. Come on folks, you also have to know by know that breakfast is the most important part of the day!

I can rewatch a movie a million times over but can’t re-read a book

I don’t really get it… usually people who can’t rewatch movies can’t reread books. I guess I’m an anomoly because LOVE going to the same restaurants over and over again and also rewatching some of my favorite movies. When it comes to books though, once I’ve read them the thrill and the intensity of the book, in my opinion is gone. That is not to say the few books that stuck with me over the years won’t be on my future bookshelf in my house, but that’ll be more for sharing with others — enabling them to have THEIR intitial thrill with the book.

I am wildly obsessed with ALL things Salty and Sweet and can’t take anything Spicy or Sour

Here is, yet another, difference between my brother and I. He is as spicy/sour ADDICT, whereas, if the salt shaker has run dry or there is no Splenda in our sweet jar, I pretty much would prefer not to sit down for the given meal. Not to say my cooking or my boyfriend/family/friend’s cooking isn’t up to par? I just can’t function without my salt….or insanely obnoxious amounts of sugar. I put on my “TAYLOR TO DO” list every year “STOP WITH ALL THE SUGAR AND SALT” but for some reason it seems to remain unchecked in my notebook.

My Daily Routine

 I must admit, I have become better over the past year. Perhaps I should attribute my decrease in food ADD to my transition into real life? Who knows, all I know is that I can’t have one more egg white with cheese omelet with a side of toasted Rye for A LONG TIME. I am also, lately, craving some fruits and something crunchy in the morning. With that in mind, I have decided to switch up a lot of my meals and boy was it refreshing. I thought I’d go through what I eat day to day — clearly not every day… or including weekends….or including the Oreos I polish off and don’t remember eating. Let’s move on shall we?

BREAKFAST

FAGE OR CHOBANI GREEK YOGURT WITH ROLLED OATS AND VARIOUS FRUITS

This surprisingly keeps me as full as my omlettes have in years past, but it has so much more flavor and variety in textures — I am totally diggin it at the moment. I love switching up the cereals/oats I use — sometimes I will use just plain old Quaker Oats rolled oats or sometimes I’ll eat our clients cereal in house such as Post Grape Nuts and Shredded Wheat. Fruit I vary it up too sometimes I love blueberries, rasperries and other times I love more “oomph” so I get Kiwi and Mangoes. YUM.

My recent love for Lattes with syrup, I must admit, have come with a heavy cost. Perhaps it’s just me but 5 dollars for a Cup O’ Joe with some foamed milk and syrup really shouldn’t rack up to 5 bucks, but hey, I do live in Manhattan so I will shut up about it. I tend to order a Medium Skim latte with vanilla syrup and cinnamon sprinkled on top. If I’m not in a coffee mood I tend to go for Mighty Leaf’s Chai tea with Honey and a bit of milk. BY THE WAY — if you aren’t familiar with Mighty Leaf? You should go this instant and buy the ridiculously priced box, it’s worth your bang for the buck. Hold me to it.  

LUNCH

Lunch is always an iffy one for me. I’m not a lunch girl by any means but my stomach sure is. I am ravenous come 1pm but the inevitable question is — what to eat? I sometimes make sauteed chicken with Farfalle and vegetables to bring to work. Other times, I have a large bowl of Hale and Hearty Soup or an oversized chopped (hold the chopping part) from PAX. I don’t think lunch should be your favorite meal of the day — it is in passing. Meals should be able to be enjoyed in a leisurely manner, not midway through the to do list at work or for classes. Count me out.

DINNER 

I have and will always love my Caesar salads. Similar to my love for French Onion soup, there is no other pick for appetizers most nights of the week. If I’m somewhere upscale that frowns down upon such low brow selections, I will opt for something more esoteric but for the most part? I love me a good salad with extra cheese, crispy croutons and big chunks of romaine.  

For my entree, I will either have some type of lighter fish dish — I.E. Cod, Scallops, Shrimp, Halibut or will turn to my go to — BBQ marinated grilled chicken with a bed of rice and some vegetables. I love going to Chelsea Grill in Hell’s Kitchen and getting their Grilled Chicken Platter with a side of steamed spinach. The dish is presented with sweet as hell Honey Barbeque sauce coating the chicken breasts, a massive bed of white rice (shoot me, really) and marinated then chargrilled vegetables such as eggplant and zucchini — can’t beat it.

DESSERT

I wish I could still have creamy ice cream but I can’t — lacoste intolerance has got me opting only for greek yoguts and frozen yogurt which doesn’t upset my stomach for some odd reason? Anyway, I love having some Butterscotch or Vanilla Fro Yo mostly store bought not from Pinkberry or any of that nonesense, with whipped cream. It does the trick in my book. You don’t feel all too guilty about it and it’s a satisfying treat after dinner. Still wouldn’t mind some damn ice cream every once and a while though, whatever man.

Hot Chocolate can and will always be my night time go to sweet drink. I’m sorry don’t try to persuade me otherwise. I also tend to enjoy store bough SWISS MISS (yes I said it) over in store Hot Chocolate. There’s just something reminiscent about opening up the packet in the company of your own home and making amazing hot chocolate yourself. I don’t add marshmellows though — a bit over the top don’t ya think? I think my whipped cream and fro yo indulgence covers me for the evening typically.  

My Favorite Breakfast– Everything But The Kitchen Sink

1) START WITH EGGS (REGULAR EGGS, WHITES, OR BEATERS YOUR CHOICE)

2) ADD CHEESES INTO THE MIX — INCORPORATE MORE THAN 1 FOR ENHANCED FLAVOR PROFILES

Parmesan CheeseFeta Cheese

American Cheese

3) INCORPORATE ANY COMBINATION OF THE FOLLOWING ADDITIONAL INGREDIENTS

Spinach (Sauteed or Steamed)
Asparagus

Mushrooms of your choice

Smoked Salmon (Lox)

  1. Sauté the veggies of choice in an additional saute pan
  2. Once cooked to your liking, incorporate them into the already scrambled eggs in the other pan
  3. Add in your cheeses — however many you desire and scramble all ingredients together. Add the amount of salt and pepper (and dill if you’re adventurous)
  4. Serve with wheat toast or an English Muffin.
  5. ENJOY TAYLOR’S EVERYTHING BUT THE KITCHEN SINK

Snack Awards–The Best of The Best

I have a lot of favorite foods/ snacks but I figure I should highlight the best of the best — the products that continually find their way into my shopping cart.

Special K Chocolatey Delight Cereal

It’s like a dessert and a breakfast all at once. LOVE the Special K line of cereals, they have extremely low in sugar, high in taste options for breakfast cereal. I also love their Fruit and Yogurt Cereal as well. You can’t really go wrong to be honest.

Thomas Whole Wheat English Muffins

I grew up on Thomas English Muffins slathered with Peanut Butter and Honey (my momma’s speciality).. I think English Muffins are the ideal size — you’re never left hungry or too full after eating one. I tend to scramble some eggs and make a sandwich with the muffins.


Chobani Greek Yogurt (In General)

These are the two new flavors I am DROOLING over but I do love some of their original stuff like Pineapple and Honey Greek Yogurt combinations. They’re extremely rich and creamy without the problem of dairy.

Skinny Cow Ice Cream Sandwiches

No I am not on a diet but these ice cream sandwiches are amazing, with the added bonus of being healthy. I love the Strawberry Shortcake Ice Cream sandwiches the most, but couldn’t seem to find any solid pictures of them.

Joseph’s Bakery Pita Bread/ Tortillas

I have been in love with these tortillas for a few years now, they’re extremely packed with protein and dietary fiber. They are also low in fat and carbs — where can you go wrong?
